THE BROTHERWISE DISPATCH, VOL.2, ISSUE#15, MARCH-MAY/2015
Working in undisturbed solitude amidst the boisterous noise and postmodern social gravity of New York City’s eroding literary café culture, the Ronin-as-radical autonomous intellectual(1) seduces insight in a sullen dialectic mediation between human agency, a couple of notebooks and a laptop computer. Compulsively writing in ebbs and flows while drinking green tea, spontaneously adding the occasional break to an irrepressible rhythm of intellectual work by stepping outside the café entrance, where intermittently puffing a cigar renews a creative transcendence imbuing Honduran tobacco smoke with a certain reflexive texture as it travels up, rising above the fray. The Ronin gazes skyward, tracing ever rising wisps of cigar smoke, with phenomenological appreciation of unrestricted movement and unfiltered ascendancy as generated by intentionality, stainless steel lighter and pure tobacco. Laughing slightly, while reveling in an acute awareness of our shared human condition, the Ronin realizes a lived temporality implicated by the decision to write as an incredibly singular mode of engagement with the world and intersubjective resonance with Others.
Yet, Black subjectivity-as-human ‘being’ interrogates potentialities of existential freedom with an immediacy disclosing horizons of emancipatory praxis that sustain the mediation of an ontological rhythm of constitutive self-determination, relentless transcendence and spiritual upheaval against the Real. As such, this lived rhythm of human ‘being-in-the-world’ is distinguished by the dread of movement from inauthenticity towards persecution, rather than the anguish of motion from self-deception towards authenticity. For modernity rewards any rhythm of ascendant humanity with an appropriate dosage of objective violence, as a consequence of confronting the Real of a pervasive western imperialist continuum with authentic freedom of situated rational soul that antagonizes the normative gaze of Empire. Thus, the universal scope of insurgent philosophical endeavor is situated precisely in the human singularity of lived Black experience.
