The BROTHERWISE DISPATCH, VOL.2, ISSUE#7, MARCH-MAY/2013
Our contemporary socio-historical context reveals just how much structural-inert oppression weighs down the lives of an overwhelming majority of humanity and becomes such a banality, that human suffering itself is merely a part of the natural landscape of advanced neo-liberal capitalist globalization; right next to the red and yellow ‘over 99 billion served’ sign projected everywhere as a bright neon simulacrum of human progress and modernity.
Under such anonymity of soul, western imperialist domination objectifies human ‘being’, imposing upon our consciousness an overdetermination-from-without, molding us into an ‘Other’, a type of subhuman variant before the normative gaze of established power. This in turn, ratifies a structurally consistent disregard for our human condition through ethics-as-spectacle and objective violence. Indeed, hyperbourgeois subjectivity has no tolerance for those who reject its standards as universally binding.
In the most glowing humanitarian language and with the utmost sincerity of liberal intentions, we are often reassured that the extent of injustice visited upon us is directly related to the extent of our spiritual assimilation into a western imperialist continuum. “Isn’t the President Black?” Such blatant neo-colonialist logic ignores the fact that western imperialism with a Black face is still Empire.
Human ‘being’ is defenseless against established power only to the extent to which we consciously cede our agency, for no matter the scope or consequence, all forms of human resistance against oppression begin with conscious choice: a choice that simultaneously commits us to an emancipatory project while initiating potentialities for a constitutive self-determination of human subjectivity from which to manifest a more dynamic realization of human liberation.
Even in the face of overwhelming odds as maintained by the structural-inert violence of western imperialist power, the rebellion of even one of us, implicates all of us with potentialities from which to either accept or reject the dehumanizing terms of our lived experience. Hence an opportunity arises for us to choose to get in tune with that existential rhythm of constitutive self-determination, relentless transcendence and spiritual revolt which animates our shared humanity and illuminates our freedom. The ensuing confrontation between a rebirth of genuine human subjectivity and a global tyranny of established unjust power makes geonationalist insurrection possible . . .
